ACMT – Apple Certified Macintosh Technician

Individuals wishing to become an Apple Certified Macintosh Technician (ACMT) must complete one hardware and one software exam at a minimum. This five day course encompasses both aspects. Three days are spent preparing for the hardware exam and two days for the software exam.

The course is a mixture of leader-led theory and extensive hands on practicals including take apart sessions on the latest Apple desktop and portable hardware. The hardware exam allows an individual to focus on how Apple Desktop and Portable computers function and how to troubleshoot them.

The OS requirement is to ensure that technicians have the knowledge to quickly and efficiently differentiate between software and hardware issues. The software exam is specific to the Mac Operating System Mac OS X v10.11 Troubleshooting Exam.

The course is conducted in English and delivered in cooperation with Amsys Ltd.

Overview of the main components that make up a Macintosh Computer. Understanding their roles and how they communicate with one another to make your computer work.

Looking at online tools, such as Global Service Exchange (GSX), Apple Support Articles (Knowledge Base), Apple Support Site and the Discussion Boards.

An explanation of what professional troubleshooting should accomplish with a comprehensive review of the components of Apple’s recommended troubleshooting process.

This course introduces you to some key technologies implemented in Apple
computers.

Checking Warranty status, Specifications and any hardware or software requirements to use or upgrade a Mac.

Introduction to the Apple recommended tools required to diagnose and resolve Hardware failures.

Reducing machine’s to minimal configuration for troubleshooting purposes.

Includes Electrostatic Discharge Prevention (ESD), Technician Safety, Embedded Battery safety as well as how to safely handle sensitive components.

Understanding of how the computer receives and distributes power to all the components along with how to troubleshoot power problems.

Describe how sub-pixels make up colours, general maintenance and cause and symptom of pixel defects.

Covers the hardware features, specifications and service issues.

Covers the hardware features, specifications and service issues.

Identify Accidental Damage on Apple Computer, and how to deal with informing the customer and how to process the repair.

A look at the recommended hardware tools required to repair Apple Computers.

Covering how the hardware and software combine and how to troubleshoot any
issues.

Explanation of the additional components found in a portable computer, including troubleshooting tips and procedures.

Collection of labs delivering the correct procedures to fully take apart the Apple desktop and portable range.

You will have opportunities to have hands-on taking apart various models of Mac Minis, Mac Pros, iMacs, MacBook Airs, MacBook Pros & MacBook Pro Retinas.

Installation requirements, upgrade paths. Using the Recovery Partition.

Types of user accounts, file and folder access and resetting passwords.

Relationship of processes and applications, tools to monitoring and managing processes, application preferences, troubleshooting, Gatekeeper & Boot Camp.

File and folder locations, search paths, Disk Utility and file repair.

OS X Security & Privacy features

Configuring & troubleshooting iCloud & Messages issues.

Defining peripherals, configuring printing in OSX. Troubleshooting peripherals and new AirPlay feature.

Accessing network accounts such as Exchange, sharing volumes and understanding AirDrop file sharing.

Defining boot errors for the Power On Self-Test, describing what happens during the Kernel load stage.

Introduction to Apple’s built-in Backup software utility.

Identifying OSX Utilities, repairing permissions using Disk Utility and ID a Kernel Panic.
